“Effectiveness of group leadership coaching”
In this article, Manfred Kets de Vries advocates the effectiveness of group leadership coaching. The argument is made that although one-on-one coaching can be highly effective, leadership coaching in a group setting can have a much higher pay-off because changes in leadership behaviour are more likely to occur due to the presence of others to challenge and support one another.
The article explores how leadership group coaching can establish a foundation of trust, facilitate constructive conflict resolution, lead to greater commitment, and contribute to accountability, all factors that translate into better results for the organisation. It also explores the similarities between leadership coaching and psychotherapy. A strong plea is made for aspiring leadership coaches to have clinical training to create awareness of the kind of deep-seated psychological problems that can derail the leadership coaching process.
